In 2014, I enrolled in a two year, 2200 hour remedial massage program at MH Vicars School of Massage Therapy. I graduated in 2015, as I completed their accelerated program, as a Registered Remedial Massage Therapist.
What does remedial mean? “Remedial massage is the systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation, pain, and injury management. A remedial therapist must have knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology to determine where to treat the client.”
In my practice I will assess your condition, derive a treatment plan to treat your symptoms with massage techniques which may include deep tissue/therapeutic massage, cupping, strengthening exercises and stretches which may be suggested to help improve the condition.
Why are suggested stretches and exercises important? Stretches lengthen tight muscles and tendons while resistant exercises strengthening weak muscles. A variety of factors can affect the muscle structures and the muscles can become imbalanced, causing pain and discomfort.
Facts to know before you come for a massage: If you have a fever, flu like symptoms, or a cold that is less than 5 days in duration, you should not get
a massage this is a serious contraindication which means a massage will make your condition worse.
What else do I offer? Pregnancy massage for pre and post-natal this course was a more in-depth course studying massage technique and contraindications of massage regarding pregnancy. Did you know that regular massage during and after pregnancy will help the tummy go back to pre-pregnancy form faster.
Continued education include Dynamic Cupping which is a combination of massage movements and negative pressure created by proper use of the cups. The cup is moved by weak suction along the area of the muscle that needs massage. Benefits are: reduces pain, increases function, increases flexibility, increases circulation, reduces inflammation, and reduces muscle tension.
Relaxation/Swedish Massage – gentle techniques to improve your overall well-being, improves circulation, reduces stress, anxiety, and reduces muscle tension.
